The Rediscovery Centre has officially announced the launch of the Cytech Technical Three and Technical e-bike Courses at their training centre in Dublin.

In 2024, the Rediscovery Centre became the exclusive provider of Cytech Accredited Bicycle Technician Training in Ireland. Cytech qualifications are developed and delivered internationally, and continually updated with the latest innovations and changes in legislation and have been adapted for the Irish market for the first time.

The Rediscovery Centre has worked especially closely with Madison UK to fully fit-out the workshop with tools from Park Tool, battery storage from Asecos, parts cleaning by CRC, and a range of components from top brands like Shimano, DT Swiss, and Vittoria to give Cytech learners a full overview of the industry as a whole.

The Rediscovery Centre operates across the country, now catering for a full spectrum of skill levels from absolute beginners and those just new to the industry, to skilled technicians looking to take on more advanced work like suspension servicing and working with e-bike systems.

The first Technical three course will be running Monday to Friday March 23rd to 27th, and the first e-bike course will be from Wednesday to Friday May 27th - 29th.

The industry is constantly growing, changing and developing, especially the market for electric-assistance. With that comes the need for new skills and knowledge, the need to keep your training up to date and to remain adaptable to future technologies and trends , and that’s where Cytech comes in’ - Mark Dunn, Programme Manager of Rediscover Cycling and Lead Cytech Ireland Trainer

‘In both training and service work, maintaining a high standard is critical - especially when working with sensitive performance and electronic parts. Working with the Rediscovery Centre over the last 2 years has been great, they’ve been ideal ambassadors for Cytech Technical Training in Ireland’ - Jonathan Harrison, Director of the Association of Cycle Traders UK

About Cytech Technical 3

The Cytech Technical Three course covers some of the most specialised and demanding skills technicians may be asked to tackle, including the multiple hydraulic and electronic systems becoming increasingly common on modern bikes:

  • Servicing front suspension air or coil springs, and dampers assemblies
  • Re-assembling rear suspension units - including more complex piggy-back damper systems!
  • Pulling apart dropper seatposts for a thorough service and solving spongy or slow action.
  • Connecting to and modifying electronic-shifting systems like Di2 & AXS
  • Building specialist wheels to high tolerances - such as those with straight-pull bladed spokes

About Cytech Technical e-Bike

Cytech Technical e-bike helps learners to transfer their skills from the mechanical to the electronic: understanding electricity, circuits, making electrical connections, battery technology, safety and risk management of e-bikes, electric motors from simple hubs to complex mid-frame units, fault finding and diagnostic software, and everything e-bike related.

About Cytech Ireland

To date, Cytech Ireland at the Rediscovery Centre has assessed 76 technicians from across the spectrum of Cytech Technical qualifications from all over Ireland, as well as Cytech Home Mechanic courses for enthusiasts wanting something more long-form to really practise and understand everyday bicycle mechanics.

The first Technical three course will be running Monday to Friday March 23rd to 27th, and the first e-bike course will be from Wednesday to Friday May 27th - 29th. The Home Mechanic & Technical One courses will continue running about once per month.

About the Rediscovery Centre

The Rediscovery Centre is Ireland’s National Centre for the Circular Economy. Since 2004, the centre has been leading Ireland’s transition to a circular economy and low-carbon, sustainable future.

Based in Europe’s first circular economy demonstration centre, the Rediscovery Centre acts as an innovation hub, delivering education, providing research and enabling policy, citizen engagement and collaboration to support community action. Recognising that a just transition requires a social movement, the centre uses their skills and expertise to ensure that all people benefit from, and can participate in, the circular economy.

Their work is supported by key strategic partners and includes a range of education and research programmes, workshops and training courses across broad disciplines, including STEM, reuse, repair, resource efficiency and sustainability.
